Road Safety Strategy and Education 

After the fatal passenger bus accident at Namling under Mongar Dzongkhag in 1998 and another bus accident at Rabuna under Wangdue Dzongkhag in 1999, the Royal Government instructed the Ministry of Information & Communications to strengthen the driving training school and train all the professional drivers through Refresher Driving Training Courses. Subsequently, the RSTA started to conduct Refresher Driving Training Courses for all Professional drivers. Therefore, beginning 1997 till October 2006 the RSTA have conducted 55th batches of Refresher driving training courses and has trained many drivers. Besides, several workshop on "Effective Enforcement of RSTA Act and Regulations" and training on "Road safety and Traffic discipline" for the traffic Police personnel , women drivers and students have been conducted.  

Road Traffic Signs-

In general there are three types of traffic sign:

1)Mandatory or Regulatory Signs- vThese are compulsory signs to regulate the movement of traffic.They are usually circular in shape with white background,red border,black legends and red bars.

2)Cautionary or Warning Signs-Warning signs to alert the motorist  of potentially harzardous conditions on road ways and adjacent roads.They are usually triangular in shape with white background,red border and black legend.

3)Informatory Signs-Guide signs providing information as directions,services,facilities etc.Ther are usually rectangular in shape with blue background and white legend.
